Holystone

Holystone is a very special place.  A tiny village of 16 houses in the Northumberland National Park, it was once a watering place on a Roman Road and later the site of an Augustinian Priory.  It has two holy wells and a small, simple, ancient church which is open all day – a lovely place to meditate.  This is a very beautiful and little known part of the country where the local industries are sheep and cattle farming, forestry and tourism. There is a large military range to the west which also functions as an enormous nature reserve and there is a wide variety of birds and wildlife.  You are likely to see deer in the forest and hear owls hooting in the evening. In spring, the bleating of sheep and the curlew’s bubbling call often provide the soundtrack to the yoga classes.

You can find more information about Holystone on the Northumberland National Park website
